Hartsville, SC: The City of Hartsville is excited to announce that it has been selected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive a $500,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant. This significant funding will catalyze the transformation of several key areas in Hartsville improving the environmental health of our community and stimulating economic growth by attracting new businesses and residents.
The EPA’s Brownfields Program is designed to empower communities to work together to assess, clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property whose redevelopment may be complicated by the presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. This program provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through various competitive grant programs, including Assessment Grants, Cleanup Grants, and Revolving Loan Fund Grants. The funding awarded to Hartsville will be instrumental in conducting environmental site assessments and preparing cleanup plans for brownfield sites within the city, alongside funding community outreach activities.
Mayor Hancock expressed enthusiasm for the grant, stating, “This funding is a game-changer for Hartsville. It allows us to tackle long-standing environmental and economic challenges and paves the way for a brighter future for all our residents. We are committed to making Hartsville better than it has to be, and this tremendous economic driver will help us achieve that goal.”
The City of Hartsville extends its gratitude to the EPA for this opportunity and to all community partners involved in this initiative. Together, we are taking a significant step toward ensuring Hartsville’s future as a vibrant and sustainable community.
