Hartsville High School Freshman, Dani Melton, purchased bags of stuffed toys for a donation to the Hartsville Fire Department as her service project for the 2017 Miss Hartsville High competition. These stuffed toys will go to child victims of household fires to comfort them after such a traumatic experience.
At the age of 11, Miss Melton received a stuffed toy from the Hartsville Fire Department when she herself was a victim of a house fire. “It was nice to have something of my own when I had lost everything,” says Miss Melton.
“We are really appreciative of young people like Miss Melton who want to give back to those in unfortunate circumstances such as a house fire,” says Hartsville Fire Chief, Jeff Burr.
The Hartsville Fire Department covers an area of 24 sq. miles and responds to over 1,600 service calls per year. For information about donations, contact the Hartsville Fire Department administrative office at 843.383.3000.
