AUDTIONS FOR HCP’s
ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S THE 39 STEPS

Audition Dates and Location:
August 14, 15, and 17 at 7:30pm at Hartsville Center Theater.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals begin Monday, August 21st.
Rehearsals are usually Sunday afternoons and Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Evenings, but I am willing to be flexible with schedules.

Production Dates:
Must be available for the entire week of October 15th-22nd for Technical rehearsals.
The show plays 2 performances October 21st at 7:30pm and 22nd at 3:00pm

Synopsis:
Casting Patrick Barlow’s comical adaptation of “The 39 Steps,” a fast-paced, often hilariously irreverent re-creation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic mystery thriller film of 1935. Four actors portray some 150 roles. Our leading man, Richard Hannay, meets a mysterious woman at a London music hall. After witnessing her murder, he becomes entangled in solving the murder, proving his innocence, and breaking a spy ring that seems to be attached to the whole affair. All roles require good comic timing.

Roles:

Richard Hannay (Late 20s to Early 40s) – A dashing Canadian leading man (a la original star Robert Donat) entangled in the adventure of a lifetime, as he becomes a fugitive on the run to save his own life and foil the spy ring that is trying to silence him, British dialect required.

Annabella Schmidt/Margaret/Pamela (Early 20s-Early 40s)- Seeking a versatile actress to play three roles a la a young leading lady from the black-and-white films of the 1930s; Annabella is a mysterious alluring Russian/German spy; Margaret is young, shy, sheltered, very pretty Scottish wife of an older country farmer; Pamela is our spunky, independent, and very beautiful young British heroine. Russian, Scottish, and British dialects required.

Man 1 & Man 2 (any age)- Seeking two character males to share in playing some 100 other roles in the piece, must be extremely versatile, creative, and playful actors with excellent verbal and physical comic timing and a great sense of the genre of the film, must be adept with MULTIPLE European dialects (Scottish, Cockney, British, German, etc).
