For many, Hartsville is their hometown or will become their adopted hometown. Creating a hometown mentality and a quality of life for residents, is essential for the sustainability of Hartsville. Through Hartsville’s treasures and City sponsored events and programs, memories can be created for residents and families.
When school aged groups, as well as, other community groups frequent City Hall to learn about local government, staff and I always ask one question: “If you could change one thing about Hartsville, what would it be?” Often the answers in one form or another are that there isn’t anything fun for children and teens to do. We strive in our work to create something for all age groups to enjoy.
The Piratesville Splash Pad has been a family fun attraction for our small town for quite some time. With its current success, an expansion into a water park will continue building on the momentum providing a summer favorite for children, teens, and adults. With a lazy river, slides, food trucks, wave pool, and more there will be something for all ages to enjoy.
Our City Parks and Recreation department has begun creating more programs for families and the adult population. In the coming month, there are multiple adult leagues kicking off and a Fall Paddlefest for family kayaking lessons. With the Dog Days of Summer event at the splash pad, canine members of the family can even enjoy one of Hartsville’s favorites. Whether you are participating in one of these programs or just coming to support someone you know, these September events are sure to be enjoyed by all. Main Street Hartsville provides opportunities for families to spend time in our downtown with concerts and farmers market. With kids activities, food vendors, live entertainment, and more, these events are the perfect opportunity to explore downtown with friends and family. While in downtown, join in the Tales on the Town scavenger hunt. Information can be found on the City’s website at hartsvillesc.gov or found at the Hartsville Visitors Center, The Key, 106 E. Carolina Ave.
This September, the adult population of Hartsville can enjoy the throwback feature, Dirty Dancing at the City sponsored Drive-In Movie Night. More information on this event can be found at visithartsvillesc.com. Other special events by downtown businesses can be found on Visit Hartsville, SC’s Facebook page post of “5 Things to do this weekend in Hartsville” each week.
