Recycler of the Month – October 2015

Mary Ridgeway is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for October 2015.

Ridgeway is a solidly enthusiastic recycler who keeps a bin in her kitchen to make sorting out items easier. She said she counts glass, aluminum cans and paper as her most commonly recycled items.

Physical improvements coming to downtown Hartsville streets, trees — Small portion of South Fourth Street to close during daytime hours week of Nov. 2

UPDATE — Hartsville residents can expect to see several physical improvement projects in downtown Hartsville in the coming weeks, including the repaving of a small portion of South Fourth Street and tree trimming along Carolina Avenue.

City of Hartsville Parks Committee invites residents to give input on parks at Nov. 12 meeting

Hartsville residents will get a chance to shape the future of the City of Hartsville’s parks Thursday, Nov. 12 as the City’s Parks Committee hosts a public planning meeting for park development. The meeting will begin at 12 p.m. in the Hartsville City Hall Council Chambers, found at 100 E. Carolina Ave. The meeting will take place at noon to allow participants to attend during their lunch break, and all attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch.

The City of Hartsville has hired Arnett Muldrow & Associates to conduct a branding and marketing initiative for Hartsville. The purpose of the effort is to create a consistent image package for the community and its partners to use to continue to build local pride, recruit investment to the community, and market Hartsville to visitors.

A Moment with the Manager – Start-Up Hartsville competition gives new opportunities to local entrepreneurs

From new construction to new renovation to established businesses gaining new management, downtown Hartsville has become a hotbed of fresh entrepreneurship in recent memory. We’re only getting started, however, because the Start-Up Hartsville business competition, a program which offers $12,000 in rental assistance to winners as well as guidance for planning out a business, is now accepting another round of applicants just as its initial winners are opening their doors in our historic business district.

Hartsville Fire Department providing collection point for flood relief donations

The Hartsville Fire Department, 111 S. Seventh St., is serving as a collection point for donations to serve flood victims. The department is accepting such items as bottled water, canned foods, paper goods and cleaning supplies. For more information, contact Larry Bess at 843.206.3318.

Yard debris pickup suspended

City of Hartsville Environmental Services has temporarily suspended yard debris pickup because current landfill conditions are not allowing debris to be carried in. Yard debris collection will resume as soon as conditions make it possible.

UPDATE: Yard debris collection is planned to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 7.
