Hartsville Christmas Parade to bring together marching bands, dance groups and many other community organizations Saturday, Dec. 12

The Hartsville community’s greatest holiday tradition will arrive next Saturday, Dec. 12 as the Hartsville Christmas Parade rolls onto South Fifth Street with more than 50 schools, churches, businesses, and other local organizations. The 2015 parade, sponsored by SPC Credit Union, North Industrial Machine and Sonoco, will step off at 10:30 a.m.

Pride Park to receive new tree Dec. 10 in honor of South Carolina’s Arbor Day

The City of Hartsville will honor South Carolina’s Arbor Day on Thursday, Dec. 10 by planting a new Southern Sugar Maple tree in Pride Park, found at 630 S. Sixth St. Anyone interested is invited to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m.

City of Hartsville to begin using CodeRED Emergency Notification system

The City of Hartsville has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification system. CodeRED provides City officials the ability to deliver important or critical messages to phones in targeted areas or throughout the city quickly.

CodeRED allows in-city residents and businesses to receive critical messages from their local government about emergencies, or some general notifications if desired, by phone, text or email. The system uses a telephone database, although not all in-city phone numbers have necessarily […]

Recycler of the Month – November 2015

Mamie Kelley is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for November 2015.

She said she has been careful to recycle items for a long time, especially plastic bottles and paper, and keeps a bucket in her kitchen to collect recyclables until she’s ready to move them to her outside roll cart.

“It’s very easy to carry it out in a bag, and it helps keep things clean around your house,” Kelley said.

Changes in trash and recycling pickups for Thanksgiving holidays

City of Hartsville utility customers will see a couple of changes in their trash and recycling pickup schedules for the Thanksgiving holidays. The regular Thursday route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 25, and the regular Friday route will be collected Monday, Nov. 30. For more information, contact Environmental Services at 843.383.3019.

Hartsville Fire Department’s Boots and Buckets fundraiser to bring many local families a Merry Christmas

Around the Hartsville area last year, 105 families facing difficulty providing Christmas gifts for their children received some help from the Hartsville Fire Department’s Boots and Buckets fundraiser, bringing a brighter holiday season to 215 children. Now, Hartsville shoppers will get another opportunity to contribute to this powerful community effort, as the Fire Department brings back the annual program the day after Thanksgiving.

Hartsville Fire Department reminds residents to think safe when cooking this Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the City of Hartsville Fire Department would like to remind everyone who will be cooking this year to be careful and never leave the stove unattended while in use.
