Recycler of the Month, July 2015

Imogene Price is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for July 2015.

She has found Hartsville to have an excellent recycling program, and said that she encourages everyone to take advantage of it. Recycling items like cans, bottles and mail takes little time, she said, adding that she believes conserving resources and being a good steward is her duty as a Christian and a citizen.

National Bikers Roundup coming to area Aug. 5 – 9

Agencies in and around Darlington County are now preparing for the huge influx of tourists which will visit the area next week, Aug. 5-9, for the National Bikers Roundup event at the Darlington Dragway. After already making the decision to stage the unsolicited event here, the event’s organizers first contacted Darlington County Tourism last year to let its staff know they were coming.

Special Play 4 Special Kids donation brings aquatic wheelchairs to Piratesville Splash Pad at Byerly Park

Trips to the Piratesville Splash Pad at the Byerly Park Recreation Complex are now offering more opportunities for fun among children with disabilities, thanks to a donation of aquatic wheelchairs organized by a Special Play 4 Special Kids campaign.

The special wheelchairs, which can be completely submerged, greatly improve access to the children’s water play facility for patrons with physical disabilities. They are available on request at the ticket gate of the Piratesville Splash Pad, found at 1109 14th St. […]

South Carolina Baptist Convention volunteers to help local residents with storm relief

UPDATED: The South Carolina Baptist Convention will have volunteers in the Hartsville community this Monday, July 27, helping property owners who need assistance by removing limbs and trees downed by Tuesday evening’s storm. They have asked the Hartsville Fire Department to assist them by evaluating residential properties where tree damage is hindering homeowners from getting in and out. The Byerly Park Recreation Complex always hosts a frenzy of athletic events, but beginning tomorrow, it will attract more than its usual share of attention. The 2015 Dixie Girls Ponytails World Series has come to town, bringing together hundreds of people from six states for several days of competition here in Hartsville.

“Big Hero 6” coming to the big screen for Screen on the Green’s July 25 showing, sponsored by The Children’s Group

The inflatable robot Baymax will be appearing on an inflatable movie screen in Burry Park next Saturday, July 25, when “Big Hero 6,” the 2014 Walt Disney Pictures animated superhero adventure, is shown for the City of Hartsville’s Screen on the Green free summer movie series. The event is sponsored by The Children’s Group and will begin at dusk, 8:40 p.m. or later. Burry Park is located in downtown Hartsville at 131 Cargill Way.

Dixie Ponytails World Series kicks off in Hartsville with Opening Ceremonies in Burry Park on July 24

The Dixie Ponytails 2015 World Series, a massive traditional girls’ softball tournament coming to the Byerly Park Recreation Complex beginning July 25, will start up with a bang on Friday, July 24 with the customary downtown parade and opening ceremonies at Burry Park.

The tournament will take place from Saturday, July 25 through Wednesday, July 29 and will bring together teams from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, as well as the host Hartsville team.

South Hartsville Revitalization Association kicks off neighborhood housing survey

A new housing study project spearheaded by the South Hartsville Revitalization Association aims to take an important step forward in seeking funding resources for neighborhood revitalization efforts, as well as identifying priority need areas in the community. Volunteers will begin the study the week of July 13 and continue working through July 31.

July is here, and governments everywhere have begun operating under their 2015-16 Fiscal Year budgets.
