Press Release: Hartsville Police Department Investigate Shooting
HPD Investigates Shooting October 31 2022
On Sunday, October 30, 2022, at or around 8:30 p.m., the Hartsville Police Department received a report of a shooting on Security Drive in Hartsville, SC. When officers arrived, it was discovered one male victim had been taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities believe this to be an isolated event.

The City of Hartsville’s first responders invite the community to join them in Burry Park, 131 Cargill Way, on August 14, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for National Night Out. The Hartsville Police Department hosted the Southern K-9 Conference in Hartsville, South Carolina on June 21-23, 2021. Hartsville Police Sergeant Kyle Hause, under direction of Chief of Police Jerry Thompson, worked to bring Jay Kerr with Makor K-9 of West Virginia to Hartsville for this conference. The Department has a long-standing relationship with Makor K-9 as three Department Labradors have been trained there.

The Hartsville Police Department will be participating in the 2020 Thanksgiving Holiday Campaign administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The campaign will run from November 25th – 29th and will focus on the aggressive enforcement of impaired drivers. According to NHTSA, from 2013 to 2017, more than 800 people died in alcohol impaired driving crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period, making it one of the deadliest holidays on our roadways.

From October 2019 to September 2020, the Hartsville Police Department DUI Officer worked hard on this project to keep Hartsville safe for those who live, work, and visit our great city. Despite some of the inactive time due to the pandemic and other “road blocks” that we encountered along the way, the DUI project was still successful in 2019-2020.
