After the S.C. Drought Response Committee determined on Oct. 30 that South Carolina’s drought status had ended as of Oct. 5, the City of Hartsville announced today that it is ending its call for voluntary reductions of water use.
In July, the City asked for is water customers to voluntarily reduce their water usage, a request required by Section 82-144 of City Code while Darlington County was in a moderate drought status. That call has officially ended now that the S.C. Drought Response Committee has reduced the drought status statewide after historically heavy rainfall during October, with some areas recording as much as 14 to 28 inches of precipitation after Oct. 1. Most South Carolina streamflow gages used to measure drought levels, which were below normal in late September, are now showing above normal flows, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
For questions or concerns about water usage in the City of Hartsville, water customers should contact Public Service Director James Clemons at 843.383.3006.
