City Unleashes Pawesome New Dog Park
WHAT: Dog Park Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening
WHERE: Byerly Park, 701 W Washington St
WHEN: May 31, 5:30 p.m.
The City of Hartsville’s “Barks & Recreation” Department has recently completed a new Dog Park at the Byerly Park recreation complex. Located near the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center by the outdoor track and 1.1 mile walking trail, the park provides a designated, enclosed area for small dogs and another for large dogs. Benches, doggie water fountains, and waste stations are provided in both areas.
A ribbon cutting and grand opening for the new bark will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 5:30 p.m. Visit hartsvillesc.gov/parks/ or follow @HartsParksandRec on Facebook for more information on the event.
The Darlington County Humane Society will be there to let some of their adoptable pups try out the new park and meet some new friends. They’ll be sharing information about their Raise the Woof Capital Campaign to build a new shelter in Darlington County and accepting donations of food, supplies, and money to support the shelter. In particular, they need puppy and kitten food, Clorox-brand bleach, paper towels, any size crates (new or used), and all sizes of collars and leads.
The Hartsville Police Department’s K9 Unit will be there to get some much needed R&R after a long day’s work. Cpl. Curtis will be with Scar, a black Labrador who’s an expert at detecting narcotics, and Ofc. Purvis will bring Maggie, a bloodhound who helps in missing persons cases. Hartsville Fire Dept Participating?
This small dog park was created to meet needs of our pet community while funds continue to be raised to create a larger dog park in downtown Hartsville. If you you would like to make a financial donation to help raise the necessary funds, please contact Karen Caulder at karen.caulder@hartsvillesc.gov.
