Hartsville, S.C. – Byerly Park’s Piratesville Splash Pad may close to humans after Labor Day weekend, but it will open itself to four-legged visitors for one last day afterward.
This special event, the Dog Days of Summer fundraiser, will give a rare chance for dogs to frolic among the fountains, geysers and dumping buckets of the splash pad, and will serve as a benefit for a dedicated dog park in downtown Hartsville. The event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. Entrance will cost $10 per family, with additional donations encouraged.
All dogs must be up to date on all vaccinations to enter the event. Female dogs in heat and puppies less than six months old will not be allowed. All pet handlers must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult, and handlers are limited to no more than two dogs. Visitors will be asked to sign a release to enter the splash pad. Although dogs must remain on a leash when entering and leaving the splash pad, they may be released from their leashes after entering. Owners will be required to supervise their dogs and clean up after them as necessary. Owners are also encouraged to get their dogs to relieve themselves before entering, and to avoid trimming their dogs’ nails beforehand. Although outside food and drinks, both for dogs and humans, will not be allowed, concessions will be available for human visitors, and must be eaten in the concession area. Drinking water will be available to dogs throughout.
