Hartsville Police Department’s DUI Grant – Final 2018 Report

As the 2018 DUI grant period comes to a close, the Hartsville Police Department would like to release their final report on the progress that the DUI Grant officer has made.

From January 17th – September 30th, this officer has been hard at work keeping the citizens of Hartsville safe. He has written 208 warnings and has made a total of 550 charges. The breakdown of charges is listed below. In addition to patrolling the streets, the DUI officer has given 6 presentations to the public on topics such as How to Report Drunk Drivers, Consequences of DUI, How DUI affects the Body, and Impaired Driving Simulation. There have been 48 total public safety checkpoints associated with the funding from this grant. In all, 1,729.5 hours were spent as a part of this grant as the officer worked to keep the streets of Hartsville safe from motorists driving under the influence.

Of the 53 DUI arrests, 7 offenders were found guilty, 12 reached pretrial reduction or plea deals, and 34 are still awaiting trial. The Hartsville Police Department has been awarded another DUI grant for 2019 and will continue to aggressively patrol the streets for DUI offenders. Citizens are reminded to be cautious of their actions and always seek a designated driver rather than driving home impaired.
