Hartsville DUI Officer Celebrates First Hundred Days on Job
Hartsville, SC – The first 100 days for the Highway Safety Grant from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety grant-funded DUI officer at the Hartsville Police Department have been busy and productive. Hartsville’s DUI Officer Justin Reichard has logged over 550 grant project hours. He has held or assisted with fourteen public safety checkpoints and has made two thirds of the department’s DUI arrests with a total of twenty-four cases. He has also made over two hundred other charges during this time that are not DUI-related. These charges include offenses such as Child Restraint, Speeding, Operating Uninsured Vehicle, and Driving Under Suspension violations. He issued a total of eighty-three warning tickets as well.
In addition to enforcement, public education and awareness are an important part of this project. Officer Reichard has spoken at three public forums covering topics about the consequences of driving under the influence (DUI), making good choices and reporting impaired drivers. Also, on April 11th, the Hartsville Police Department was awarded the Gold Level award by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and the Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs during the 2017 DUI enforcement recognition ceremony in Columbia, SC. This was for successfully meeting all Law Enforcement Network requirements during 2017.
The Hartsville Police Department is committed to preserving, protecting and enhancing the quality of life in our community.
