From October 2019 to September 2020, the Hartsville Police Department DUI Officer worked hard on this project to keep Hartsville safe for those who live, work, and visit our great city.  Despite some of the inactive time due to the pandemic and other “road blocks” that we encountered along the way, the DUI project was still successful in 2019-2020.

The DUI Officer issued over 200 criminal and/or traffic related charges and over 70 warning tickets. The breakdown of charges for the project year are listed in the attached chart. Although the DUI Officer was not able to make public presentations as planned, he was successful in communicating with the public by making an educational video that was released on social media. Throughout the grant cycle, the public remained informed of the project activity through periodic press releases which shared valuable information with those who travel the streets of Hartsville. Before the pandemic, Hartsville Police Department was able to hold or participate in 7 public safety checkpoints with the assistance of other agencies in the area.  A total of 1458 hours were spent on the project this year. The primary mission of this project is to save lives by removing as many impaired drivers from the streets as possible. This year, efforts were successful as the DUI Officer apprehended 24 impaired drivers.

Hartsville Police Department has also been awarded the DUI grant for 2021. This will assist in funding the continuance of HPD’s efforts to keep Hartsville safe.  Anyone who decides to drink or who may be taking medication that impairs your ability to safely operate a vehicle should have a designated driver.  Please remember that during the approaching holiday season, the DUI Officer and Traffic Safety Officer will continue to work diligently alongside all HPD officers to keep Hartsville safe.
