Hartsville’s Hidden Hero for the month of July is Andrea Steen. Andrea has been with the City of Hartsville for 4 years and is currently serving as the Museum Manager at the Hartsville Museum. She leads a small staff at the Museum and has a true passion for telling the story of Hartsville. One huge aspect of the story of Hartsville is collecting both artifacts and information from people about the Hartsville that may be untold.
Andrea’s job is never the same from day to day and that is something that she embraces and handles gracefully. Whether she is working with the public to develop and tell the stories of Hartsville or researching and preserving pieces of Hartsville history, she always has a smile on her face. Andrea loves putting her hands on artifacts and bringing them back to life in order to preserve it for years to come. She reflects on the story behind the artifact and the love that likely surrounded the item.
The staff and many community partners are working on some exciting projects that they look forward to announcing soon for the Hartsville Museum and for the community. They truly utilized their time during quarantine to develop projects and acquire some amazing artifacts that they can’t wait to share!
Andrea encourages anyone with a connection or love of Hartsville history to stop by the museum and take a look at the stories that are already being told. The staff at the Hartsville Museum is currently looking to expand their collection of artifacts and invite you to come by and tell your stories of Hartsville with words or with artifacts. They are open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and even have a special time for Senior Citizens and immunocompromised to come from 10 a.m. – noon.
