After a significant increase in mosquito populations coming out of the heavy rains in October, City of Hartsville Streets and Grounds workers will spray throughout the City on the evening of Friday, Nov. 6. The department will then monitor local mosquito activity to determine if additional treatment is needed. For questions or concerns, please contact 843.383.3019.

Areas of standing water which are common after periods of strong precipitation provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) advises that residents eliminate these areas to reduce mosquito problems. This can be done by emptying out or removing any item which can hold rainwater, including pots and pet bowls as well as tires or covers for pools or boats. Clearing debris from gutters and cutting back thick vegetation can also reduce mosquito numbers. Insect repellant and light-colored clothing with long sleeves can also protect residents against mosquitoes when outdoors.
