Paddington Bear, the classic character featured in more than 20 children’s books, will come to the City of Hartsville’s Screen on the Green free movie series Saturday, July 11. The movie showing, sponsored by North Industrial Machine, is taking place downtown in Burry Park, 131 Cargill Way, at dusk, 8:40 p.m. or later.
The 2014 comedy brings author Michael Bond’s famous marmalade- and duffle-coat-loving creation to life in an imaginative and playful live action adaptation. Paddington (Ben Whishaw) is an intelligent, well-mannered bear from the jungles of Peru who finds himself lost and in search of a home in London. Despite his hapless, accident-prone nature, he is taken in by Mary Brown (Sally Hawkins) and Henry Brown (Hugh Bonneville), but faces a new threat in Millicent Clyde (Nichole Kidman), a taxidermist who wants to stuff and mount him.
Moviegoers are invited to bring chairs and blankets to Burry Park. In the event of rain, the showing will relocate to Byerly Park’s Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center, 701 W. Washington St. in Hartsville.
Screen on the Green will continue through the rest of the summer with the following dates:
- July 25 – “Big Hero 6,” sponsored by The Children’s Group
- Aug. 8 – “Planes: Fire and Rescue,” sponsored by the Hartsville Fire Department and Police Department
