Trash, recycling pickup changes for Christmas and New Year’s holidays

Several of the City of Hartsville’s trash and recycling pickups will move from their normal days to a new day during the Christmas and New Years holidays. The changes will be as follows:

Christmas Eve: Thurs. Dec. 24 moved to Tues. Dec. 22
Christmas Day: Fri., Dec. 25 moved to Wed., Dec. 23
Monday After Christmas: Mon., Dec. 28 moved to Tues., Dec. 29
New Year’s Day: Friday, Jan. 1 moved to Thurs., Dec. 31

Upgrades of public parking lot on East Carolina Avenue coming Dec. 19 – 20

Downtown Hartsville visitors will see infrastructure improvement work in the public parking lot on East Carolina Avenue, near the Hartsville YMCA, on Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20, as the lot is sealcoated and restriped.

The portion of the lot closest to Cargill Way, Jones Family Eyecare and Waddell & Reed, Inc. is scheduled to close early Saturday morning, Dec. 19 to allow crews to sealcoat the lot. The area will close again Sunday morning for the lot to […]

Recycler of the Month – November 2015

Mamie Kelley is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for November 2015.

She said she has been careful to recycle items for a long time, especially plastic bottles and paper, and keeps a bucket in her kitchen to collect recyclables until she’s ready to move them to her outside roll cart.

“It’s very easy to carry it out in a bag, and it helps keep things clean around your house,” Kelley said.

Changes in trash and recycling pickups for Thanksgiving holidays

City of Hartsville utility customers will see a couple of changes in their trash and recycling pickup schedules for the Thanksgiving holidays. The regular Thursday route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 25, and the regular Friday route will be collected Monday, Nov. 30. For more information, contact Environmental Services at 843.383.3019.

Repaving of remaining City of Hartsville parking lot on East College Avenue scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 16

Motorists in downtown Hartsville will see the next phase in East College Avenue infrastructure improvements begin on the morning of Monday, Nov. 16, as the parking lot between Sophia’s Pizzeria and the Arcade Barbershop closes to allow repaving work to begin. The work will continue through at least the following six weeks, subject to weather conditions. All other City of Hartsville downtown parking lots will remain open during this time.

City of Hartsville ends call for voluntary water usage restrictions after South Carolina downgraded to no drought status

After the S.C. Drought Response Committee determined on Oct. 30 that South Carolina’s drought status had ended as of Oct. 5, the City of Hartsville announced today that it is ending its call for voluntary reductions of water use.

Mosquito spraying taking place throughout the City of Hartsville Nov. 6 following heavy rains

After a significant increase in mosquito populations coming out of the heavy rains in October, City of Hartsville Streets and Grounds workers will spray throughout the City on the evening of Friday, Nov. 6. Mary Ridgeway is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for October 2015.

Physical improvements coming to downtown Hartsville streets, trees — Small portion of South Fourth Street to close during daytime hours week of Nov. 2

Yard debris pickup suspended

City of Hartsville Environmental Services has temporarily suspended yard debris pickup because current landfill conditions are not allowing debris to be carried in. Yard debris collection will resume as soon as conditions make it possible.

UPDATE: Yard debris collection is planned to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 7.
